Do I need internet to use Tablo?

Yes. You do need internet access to use Tablo. Like many modern gadgets, Tablo is a network-connected device, designed to have consistent high-speed internet access and will not function without it.

What devices can I use to set up my Tablo?

To set up your Tablo you’ll need an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.

What smart devices are compatible with Tablo for viewing and managing live TV and recordings?

Tablo is compatible with streaming devices (sticks and boxes) and smart TVs from Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV/Google TV, Samsung Tizen and LG webOS as well as smartphones and tablets running iOS and Android. Recording of some free streaming channels may be disabled due to licensing restrictions.

Does Tablo require a subscription?

No. There are no subscriptions, contracts, or hidden fees with Tablo whatsoever. Programming from your TV antenna as well as the 100+ included internet-based streaming channels are absolutely free and there is no cost to enjoy any Tablo apps, features, or guide data.

What hard drives are compatible with Tablo if I want to increase recording storage capacity?

Tablo devices come with up to 50 hours of onboard HD storage. However, you can choose to connect a portable USB hard drive (USB 2.0 or 3.0) between 1TB and 8TB in size for up to 1000 hours of additional storage capacity. See the Tablo Support Portal for details and recommendations.

Can I watch or record cable/satellite or streaming services with Tablo?

No. Tablo is designed to stream and record broadcast TV from antennas as well as included free TV streaming channels. It does not support viewing or recording from streaming services like Netflix for Sling, or cable or satellite channels like ESPN or HGTV.

Does the 4th generation Tablo support ATSC 3.0 (aka NextGenTV)?

No. The tuners in the 4th generation Tablo support the ATSC 1.0 broadcast standard used by all major commercial broadcasts today and the Tablo device takes full advantage of it like never before. While ATSC 3.0 broadcasts are available in some markets, ATSC 1.0 broadcasts will continue through at least June 2027.

Live TV Viewing Ok - DVR SUCKS

Buyer beware if you are purchasing a TABLO for its DVR function. I have so many failed recordings and so many recordings that say they will record, telling me for days that they are scheduled and then they just don't record. No error, no failure due to weak signal, just no recording. Also, I will be watching the channel I am recording with a perfectly clear picture, then go to check my recordings and will find the recording has failed due to weak signal. WTF? Why? If I am viewing a beautiful picture, why won't it record? This is just really disappointing and IMO poor software development. I was hoping for a superior replacement for my Amazon Recast DVR but I was just plain wrong. I honestly have not been so disappointed by a product in many, many years. I'm extremely glad I waited for it to go on a big sale so I didn't waste too much of my money. I should've returned it after 30 days but wanted to give it more of a chance. It's now been about 3 months and things have improved SLIGHTLY but still every day there is at least one recording failure. I've moved my antenna around but nothing changes. I will reiterate, I can see a very clear picture but still get failures a lot of the time. When the recording does actually work, it's brilliant! But it works less than 50% of the time. I still have to rely on streaming to watch my shows.

If you buy the TABLO mainly of the purpose for waching live TV, then it's a pretty great product and a great alternative to TUBI, PlutoTV, etc. But also beware that the TABLO app is best using a FireStick or Roku. The LG TV TABLO app is TERRIBLE and only has the very basic functions and does not show CC! I know that LG limits what software developers can put in their apps but TABLO should make that clear when you purchase their device. I should not have had to find that information buried in Reddit threads weeks after purchasing.

TABLO staff, if you don't hate me after this review, I'd like to offer my services as a Beta tester for the DVR functions. TABLO has the potential to be a great product, but it is nowhere near reaching that potentail at this time. Again, buyer beware.

It works great and is very reliable!!

I really enjoy my Tablo, the only thing I see to improve is when I delete recordings. I have to exit recorded programs, go to live tv and back into Tablo to watch the next recording. It sends an error message if I don't do that every time unless it's today's programs.
