Frequently asked questions

Do I need internet to use Tablo?

Yes. You do need internet access to use Tablo. Like many modern gadgets, Tablo is a network-connected device, designed to have consistent high-speed internet access and will not function without it.

What devices can I use to set up my Tablo?

To set up your Tablo you’ll need an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.

What smart devices are compatible with Tablo for viewing and managing live TV and recordings?

Tablo is compatible with streaming devices (sticks and boxes) and smart TVs from Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV/Google TV, Samsung Tizen and LG webOS as well as smartphones and tablets running iOS and Android. Recording of some free streaming channels may be disabled due to licensing restrictions.

Does Tablo require a subscription?

No. There are no subscriptions, contracts, or hidden fees with Tablo whatsoever. Programming from your TV antenna as well as the 100+ included internet-based streaming channels are absolutely free and there is no cost to enjoy any Tablo apps, features, or guide data.

What hard drives are compatible with Tablo if I want to increase recording storage capacity?

Tablo devices come with up to 50 hours of onboard HD storage. However, you can choose to connect a portable USB hard drive (USB 2.0 or 3.0) between 1TB and 8TB in size for up to 1000 hours of additional storage capacity. See the Tablo Support Portal for details and recommendations.

Can I watch or record cable/satellite or streaming services with Tablo?

No. Tablo is designed to stream and record broadcast TV from antennas as well as included free TV streaming channels. It does not support viewing or recording from streaming services like Netflix for Sling, or cable or satellite channels like ESPN or HGTV.

Does the 4th generation Tablo support ATSC 3.0 (aka NextGenTV)?

No. The tuners in the 4th generation Tablo support the ATSC 1.0 broadcast standard used by all major commercial broadcasts today and the Tablo device takes full advantage of it like never before. While ATSC 3.0 broadcasts are available in some markets, ATSC 1.0 broadcasts will continue through at least June 2027.

What are Tablo’s shipping and return policies?

Shipping is always free to residents of the United States. And while we hope you love your Tablo, if you’re unhappy for any reason we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. Customers must pay for return shipping. See our store policies page for details.

Must Have

Tablo was just what I needed to record shows when I was not home. I could watch at my convenience. Great price for the product!

Slightly disappointed

I purchased the 4th Generation Tablo because I could not position the antenna connected to the TV in my living room in a window facing north, which is the direction all the local towers are from my house. This caused frequent glitches in reception. The antenna connected to the TV in my bedroom was in a north facing window & worked better. I connected the antenna in my bedroom to the Tablo, but unfortunately my Verizon Home wireless router is in the living room, so I have to connect via wireless instead of directly connect with the network cable. I get better performance for the TV in the living room than with the antenna that I had connected previously but do experience buffering issues. I was disappointed to find that you recommend the physical network connection. EVERYTHING in my home is connected wireless & perform great. I work from home & never experience network issues. Both TVs are connected wirelessly & both have Roku connected wirelessly & all work great. I am an IT professional & requiring a physical network connection went away years ago. I have also experienced an issue where it tells me it can't play a channel because of no storage. I have NOTHING recorded on the Tablo & the settings show plenty of space. Overall, I like the Tablo better than just using an antenna, but I am disappointed to be experiencing these issues.

Great option for over the air TV!

Great option for over the air TV! ...and no monthly fees. I would rate at 5 stars but at times (4 or 5 times a week) my Tablo cannot connect to their servers. It is not my Internet as I am able to stream other apps fine while I am receiving the error message on the Tablo. Sometimes it clears on its own, other times I have to power cycle the device.

Glad We did get Tablo

After 20 years with Cox, and paying more with terrible service and viewing issues, it's good to have more channels, recording ability, and best of all .... Now free TV. Thanks to Tablo, just took too long to come out for the public.

Works well and I'm happy with it.

My 4th gen Tablo has a better receiver that various other OTA receivers I've tried. I love that there is no subscription required for the channel guide and that It has a decent amount of built in storage for recordings. I've been recording UFL Football games all spring. There are only 2 things I wish it had that it does not offer now. 1. Plex support. 2. Be a little more future proof. I wish it was ATSC 3.0 ready, but for the price I'm not complaining. Who knows if OTA broadcasts will even remain free once broadcasters make the switch to either ATSC 3.0 or LTE.
