Frequently asked questions
Do I need internet to use Tablo?
Yes. You do need internet access to use Tablo. Like many modern gadgets, Tablo is a network-connected device, designed to have consistent high-speed internet access and will not function without it.
What devices can I use to set up my Tablo?
To set up your Tablo you’ll need an iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.
What smart devices are compatible with Tablo for viewing and managing live TV and recordings?
Tablo is compatible with streaming devices (sticks and boxes) and smart TVs from Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV/Google TV, Samsung Tizen and LG webOS as well as smartphones and tablets running iOS and Android. Recording of some free streaming channels may be disabled due to licensing restrictions.
Does Tablo require a subscription?
No. There are no subscriptions, contracts, or hidden fees with Tablo whatsoever. Programming from your TV antenna as well as the 100+ included internet-based streaming channels are absolutely free and there is no cost to enjoy any Tablo apps, features, or guide data.
What hard drives are compatible with Tablo if I want to increase recording storage capacity?
Tablo devices come with up to 50 hours of onboard HD storage. However, you can choose to connect a portable USB hard drive (USB 2.0 or 3.0) between 1TB and 8TB in size for up to 1000 hours of additional storage capacity. See the Tablo Support Portal for details and recommendations.
Can I watch or record cable/satellite or streaming services with Tablo?
No. Tablo is designed to stream and record broadcast TV from antennas as well as included free TV streaming channels. It does not support viewing or recording from streaming services like Netflix for Sling, or cable or satellite channels like ESPN or HGTV.
Does the 4th generation Tablo support ATSC 3.0 (aka NextGenTV)?
No. The tuners in the 4th generation Tablo support the ATSC 1.0 broadcast standard used by all major commercial broadcasts today and the Tablo device takes full advantage of it like never before. While ATSC 3.0 broadcasts are available in some markets, ATSC 1.0 broadcasts will continue through at least June 2027.
What are Tablo’s shipping and return policies?
Shipping is always free to residents of the United States. And while we hope you love your Tablo, if you’re unhappy for any reason we offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. Customers must pay for return shipping. See our store policies page for details.
Customer Reviews
easy wireless set up to my internet and now I can watch or record TV from any of my sets. very happy with the device.
The TABLO was easy to install. Takes TOO many clicks to do most functions. About the same as a Recast it is replacing. My 17 year old TIVO is easier to use but its life is near the end and it only has one tuner. Cost comparison, the TABLO seems to be the better buy for Over-The-Air users.
This is a great way to begin cutting the cord from Comcast. It connects to our digital antenna on the roof. And then easily talks to the several Roku devices in our house, each connected to a different TV. The recording option works really well. Very glad I got it. I had no installation problems. I have not had to reboot it, as I have read other people needed to.. Like any new device there is a learning curve as you become familiar with their “model“ for getting things done.
It's a nice idea, but man, has it got a long way to go. First, it "detects" like a hundred plus free channels! Woo! Except 12 are free OTA, and the rest are just mindless garbage being streamed over the internet. Do I need an all Walking Dead 24/7 "station"? No. I guess it's OK, because they make it reasonably easy to go through all those garbage stations and remove them, one. by. one. Second, the FIRST thing I recorded, a football game, it simply cut off at halftime for no apparent reason. I told it to record the whole thing, but the recording stopped just as halftime started. It's OK, my team lost anyways, right? I can't teach it how to record only Patriots games, and not all NFL games, so the dang thing constantly fights me and says I have conflicts. Well, yeah, I didn't want to record all the games. Third, while it does have a channel guide like cable, a bunch of the OTA stuff is just blank, all the time. It can see the call letters, and the frequency number, but you have no way to know what's on those stations without clicking them. Also, you can't tune in a station and use the up/down keys to go to the next station. You have to leave the channel you're on, go back to the listings, go to the next channel, tell it to watch... Awful. Lastly, because you can't run a cable from your Tablo to the TV, if your internet goes down, you can't watch anything, even your recordings, because you can't access the Tablo. It only connects to the TV via your internet connection. How dumb is that? I have two devices, right next to each other, but they can't talk. I only found this out today, because my internet provider was down for like 18 hours doing an upgrade. Hey, I'll watch yesterday's game! No you won't! I'm giving it 2 stars, because it has SO MUCH potential, but it's simply an inferior product, all around. It's almost like it was designed by the cable companies to make you so angry you just go back to cable. There are only two things I actually like about it: You can expand the storage with an external HDD, and there's no recurring fees. Beyond that, this thing... all regrets
